Did you know that your visit to the Art Nouveau Site is helping to support healthcare and research activity at the Hospital de Sant Pau, and promote various social action projects? To reinforce these lines of action, on 5 July we’re launching Solidary Sundays.
From now on, on the first Sunday of every month admission to Sant Pau will be by payment. The Fundació Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau will designate the profits generated to different healthcare and research projects promoted by the Hospital and its Research Institute.
The first of the Solidary Sundays will be devoted to the lines of research on coronavirus being developed Sant Pau. Some 30 projects are currently under way to get an overview of the disease. They focus on issues such as improving diagnosis and treatment, identifying the profile of patients at highest risk, and knowledge of previous pathologies that may influence patients’ evolution. Research is also being carried out into the neurological and mental health implications of COVID-19, the genetic and biochemical factors that serve to predict the prognosis of those affected, and immune response to infection. We’re counting on your support to keep progressing!
An extraordinary response at an exceptional time
The healthcare response to the pandemic has been exceptional. The Foundation spent 500,000 euros on material and medical equipment to respond to the special needs of the moment.
In total, the Hospital has cared for a total of 4,500 patients affected by COVID-19 since the start of the health alert, over 200 of whom required admission to the Critical Care Unit. In response, the Hospital significantly increased its capacity; the number of hospital beds was almost doubled, from 558 to 900 in the weeks with the highest incidence, and intensive care units were also multiplied by six, reaching 120.
Continuing discounts and free admission for certain groups
We want Sant Pau to be an accessible space. That’s why the first Sunday of the month will continue to be free for over-65s, under-12s and holders of the Local Friend card (residents in the neighbourhoods of Guinardó, Baix Guinardó, Sagrada Família and Camp de l’Arpa). Additionally, Sant Pau will be offering free entry for people who are unemployed, on furlough or affected by the suspension of business activity, among other collectives. There is also a 30% discount for all other visitors until 30 September. Purchase your ticket here. Help us to reduce queues and waiting times.
